HELP US SNIFF OUT CANINE CANCER!

You can make a difference

Support our cause to
fight hemangiosarcoma

Canine hemangiosarcoma (HSA) is a cancer of the blood vessels of the liver, spleen and heart that is hard to diagnose until it is too late. Every two minutes, a dog dies from hemangiosarcoma. There is no screening test. New diagnostic tests are urgently needed to improve outcomes.

We will train dogs to tell the difference between blood samples from dogs diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma versus dogs that are healthy or have other diseases. This research will aid the development of future techniques for diagnosing hemangiosarcoma.

We are looking for both canine blood donation and monetary support for this project.

Support our Cause: Blood Donation

We are seeking blood samples from:

  • Dogs diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma.
  • Healthy dogs aged four and over (any breed).

  • Dogs unwell with conditions other than hemangiosarcoma aged four and over.

The Rookie Fund

Rookie is a Penn Vet Working Dog Center graduate who was taken by hemangiosarcoma, a common and devastating cancer. This fund supports this research and the collection of blood samples from dogs at risk of hemangiosarcoma and with hemangiosarcoma. These samples will be used to train dogs and determine if there is a unique odor able to be used as a future diagnostic tool.
